Wednesday, August 7, 2019- Game 4 in the Mid Atlantic Regional Tournament in Bristol Ct.

Derek Escobar and the EYLL defense Stop Pennsylvania
RBI Singles by Derek and Labrador key 3 Run First Inning

Starting pitcher Derek Escobar needed just six pitches to set down the Pennsylvania offense in the top of the first inning.  Derek got putouts from 2B Yamil Soto on a pop-up, a ground out to 1B Jayden Capindica and a fly ball out to CF Justin Labrador to send the Elmora defense off the field for their turn at bat.  Derek had the assignment as Elmora used their top 4 pitchers in previous games and Team Manager Jairo Labrador turned to his usual third baseman to take the mound. In 2017, Escobar pitched in critical Mid-Atlantic regional games as a ten-year-old in 2017 and he was ready for the challenge.  The outstanding defensive effort in the 1st was all the "Mo" that the team needed to get it going.

In the top of the 1st, the Elmora team got a one out single from JR Rosado.  After a pop-out to 2nd, EYLL had one on and two outs.  Jayden Capindica stroked a single through the infield and Derek Escobar picked up a RBI with a single to score JR.  Justin Labrador stroked the 3rd consecutive single to score "Cap".  EYLL picked up a run as Pennsylvania attempted to pick off Justin at 2B but the throw went into the outfield and special pinch runner Santi Alvarez came home on the error.  EYL had a commanding 3 to 0 lead on Pennsylvania.  This came against their pitcher Angelo who had held them scoreless for three innings in their first game on Sunday.

The Elmora defense took the field in the top of the 2nd and they continued their outstanding play.  Angelo was retired on a 4-3 putout.  Maitz hit a line drive up the middle but the ball hit P Derek's shoe and SS Sal Garcia took the deflection and made the throw to first in time for the second put-out (1-6-3).  After a single by Pennsylvania, the next batter hit a low pop-up to left field which was quickly fielded by Josiah Sharpe who made the throw to 1B "Cap" for the put-out to end the inning.  The play by Josiah is being featured on the Official LL Facebook page and it made the ESPN Top 10 list at #5.

Elmora picked up another run in the bottom of the 2nd inning as Emmanuel Nunez worked out a lead-off walk.  He came home on a throwing error after a Sal Garcia III single.  EYLL had a 4 to 0 lead.

The next four innings Derek continued to baffle the Pennsylvania hitters who only managed a single in the 6th.  Derek picked up the complete game win for Elmora with 3 strikeouts and NO WALKS.  Jayden Capindica has 12 putouts at first base.  Justin Labrador had 2 putouts in center.  3B Yady Mateo had 3 consecutive assists in the 3rd inning.

Note: In the second inning after Derek completed his warm-up pitches, Catcher JR Rosado made the throw down to second and looked up to his big brother in the stands.  He pointed to his arm and said "My arm is stronger."  Brother competing against brother, but always encouraging each other.
