Our 2021 Senior Softball Team won the State Championship in Morris Plains, NJ with three shutout wins in the tournament.  In the final game on Sunday, July 18, Kayla Cardozo got an RBI on a fielder's choice to give the EYLL Troopers the only run they would need in the first inning.  Anabella Farinha then pitched a no-hitter over District 1 to lead the defensive effort.  A seven-run 3rd inning added to the Trooper tally as Briana Borga, Cardozo, Adriana Severino and Lisa Frias all had RBIs.    Anabella struck out 6 batters in the shortened game.

Many of these young ladies have been playing EYLL since tee ball.  Anabella Farinha and Kayla Cardozo are league players since 2010.  Destiny Medina joined EYLL in 2011.  Deyalyn Sosa arrived in 2013 followed by Brianna Borga and Gabby Duran in 2014.   The rest of the team joined soon after these veterans.  Anabella and Gabby led the Trooper pitching in the States.  Destiny Medina caught every game in the tournament and kept the opposing baserunners in check.  We are so proud of these ladies as they captured the first state title for EYLL Softball.

In the 1st game on Friday, Anabella Farinha pitched EYLL to a 10-0 victory over Cape May.  She gave up only 2 hits and struck out 7 to hold Cape May scoreless for 3 innings.  Gabby Duran pitched the final two to earn the save.  It was an offensive explosion for the Troopers in the sixth inning as Destiny Medina, Natalia Negron, Lisa Frias, Gabby Duran, and Anabella Farinha each had an RBI.

In the 2nd game on Saturday, Anabella and Gabby combined to pitch a shut out against Cape May.  Kayla Cardozo picked up the first run with an RBI on a fielder's choice in the opening inning.  It was a six-run 5th inning that sealed the victory and put the Troopers in the final championship game.   Duran, Cardozo and Lindsay Scarola picked RBIs in the frame.  Farinha pitched 3 innings and struck out six batters to earn the win, while Duran pitched the final two for the save.

The Troopers punched their ticket to the State Tournament by winning the district 7 flag. In the final game, pitchers Anabella Farinha and Gabby Duran combined for a no-hit shutout win over Bayonne.  Anabella pitched four innings allowing only a single walk and notching 6 strikeouts.  Gabby tossed the final 5th inning in relief.  Gabby had the RBI single in the first inning to start the scoring for EYLL.  The EYLL team had 14 hits in the game with Deylalyn Sosa, Destiny Medina, Duran, Kayla Cardozo, Lisa Frias and Brianna Borga all having a multi-hit game.  The players played outstanding defense and Destiny controlled the baserunners with her outstanding work behind the plate.
